Theological Perspectives

1. Demonic Possession:

Dahmer Confessed to His Crimes Dahmer even thought that evil spirits had control over him. He said in a letter submitted with his confession “I knew I was sick or evil or both. Now I believe I was sick.” In this way, he positioned his actions as something outside of him that was acting upon him.

2. Psychological Factors (Subhuman Explanation):

This refers to the nature by which humans feel disappointed and unhappy as a result of structured societal organizations that may seem inferior or subhuman.

A belief held by some experts is that Dahmer acted the way he did because of his psychology, such as his difficult childhood with parents who frequently argued and his sense of disconnect and alienation. It viewed Dahmer as his demon, so to speak; shaped both figuratively and literally in the form of whatever tortured him on the inside.

Scientific Insights

1. Brain Structure:

Normal Structural Brain: Brain studies showed that Dahmer did not have any major abnormalities or damage. This would indicate his actions were not caused by any neurological disorder.

2. Psychological Factors:

Research – Serotonin Levels: Dahmer had higher than average levels of the neurotransmitter associated with mood regulation. This may have increased his feelings of separation from others.[3]

Conclusion

Was Jeffrey Dahmer involved in an evil demonic force or was he just a subhuman being is still an open question. Even though Dahmer had stated that he believed himself to be possessed by evil spirits, experts suggest his behaviour stems from psychological issues and battling inner demons. A scientific study of his brain found no abnormalities that might have resulted in the accidental drowning deaths, indicating that his antisocial behaviour may not have had a neurological basis.
